The Beachfront Residence is situated on prime beachside property within an exclusive gated community in Port Douglas, providing views over the Sheraton Mirage golf course and further beyond to the glistening turquoise waters of the Coral Sea.
The house consists of five pavilions, a garage, pool, pool pavilion, tennis court and tennis pavilion, all nestled amongst beautiful landscaped native gardens, providing a secluded sanctuary for the owners.
The pavilions lie in a radial pattern across the corner site, converging on the street side to provide an intimate entry and fanning out towards the stunning view across the golf-course on the alternate side. Each pavilion is linked by a fully glazed walkway bridge, suspended over large ponds below, providing the owners with endless opportunities to experience the gardens and ponds as they move through the house.
The main living pavilion is positioned centrally, raised above the sculpture garden and ponds, offering views over the pool and golf course from its’ generously sized covered dining deck with integrated outdoor cooking facilities. Guest’s are accommodated with their own master bedrooms and luxurious ensuites.
The house draws on tropical Balinese influences with a palette of natural materials, enhancing the house’s ability to harmonise with its’ landscaped surroundings. Rich spotted gums timbers clad the external faces of the pavilions with timber framing to all doors and windows. Large timber bi-folds open up each end of the pavilions, providing efficient passive cooling with cross ventilation. The pavilion roofs tilt upwards towards the sky, clad in standing seam pre-weathered zinc. Roof rain is directed towards a dry creek bed running between two pavilions, which springs to life with each tropical downpour.
The house is climatically adaptive to the humid tropical environment, and one that provides the occupants with a home for enjoyable family living in the tropics.
